55 Olds Headlight rings on the 54.

Yesterday a buddy and I picked the 54 up from a garage up north  that I've had the car stored in since the winter began. After a small hiccup in which the carb linkage broke apart while I was pumping it to start, I made the 45 mile trip home without problems.

I scored a pretty nice set of 55 Olds headlights over the winter so I was anxious to mock them up.

From the front, I love it, but after looking over the pictures, particularly the side profile, I think i'm going to have to set the head light buckets in so that the bottom of the Olds ring sits flush with the existing sheet metal. Right now you can see that it would sit about 2" forward, which looks unnatural from the side.
Regardless, what a difference in look between the stock and custom trim! Makes me excited to get some of the changes I want for the car roughed in!

New Sticker

Came up with this in wedding class.... Yes I have to take classes to get married. For those of you who have suffered through what a priest has to say about natural family planning, and the churches view on... well pretty much everything, you know my pain. For those of you who are thinking of getting married, elope!

Anyway, inspired by old childrens ads.

Model Car box Art.

I love model cars from the 50's and 60's. Granted I'm a child of a later generation, but I grew up building kits that my old man would buy at swap meets. Half assembled, missing pieces, and customized by kids totally smitten by the suggestions on the instruction sheets by the greats like Barris, Winfield, Cushenberry, Dean Jeffries, and the Alexander Brothers.  Among those kids was my father, who gave me the models that he had built as a kid. Those models became more important to me than any shiny new kit. When I unearth those, I'll photograph and post them, as he built some pretty bad ass cars.
Anyway, as cool as the models are, I have found myself drawn more and more lately to the Box Art Illustrations as well. The style, colors, and subject matter totally reflects the time, which for young modelers, must have been great!

Jonny 2 Hawk Shirts

Did this logo work for my buddy Mike who, as a gift to his brother Jonny, is starting a brand of limited edition designer T-shirts. Jonny works on bikes, and used to rock a pretty serious bi-hawk (thus the name of the brand). Should be a cool project involving a good amount of designers.

The skull logo will serve as the small brand logo, and the V-twin wings is my submission for one of the limited run shirts.
Rough Sketch work:

Barn Find Friday: '37 Pheaton Conv.

Here's one you don't see very often. Off the road since '59. Juice brakes and an 8AB Flathead. Pretty rough looking, but it looks like all the hard to find parts are still there.

68 Chrysler more-door on bags.

I've never looked twice at 68 Mopars. With the exception of a select few Imperials, my love for Chryslers design language dwindles after 66.  Then, I came across Matt's thread on LBCC's projects forum, and am really impressed. Between the clean workmanship and the consideration to things that a lot of folks wouldn't even notice, like making the inner fender wells appear stock, after extensively modifying them to lay the car down, I'm anxious to see this car come back together! Makes me rethink the potential of cars I've previously never really cared for.

The new whip.. kind of.

Picked this bad boy up in northern NJ last winter, but haven't gotten the chance to post the pictures of it 'til now. Truth be told, my father actually came across it when he was helping to clear an estate of a few cars, but when I went with him to pick up  the '35 Dodge that was tucked in the back of one of the garages, I saw it and knew I needed it. I haven't found too much history on the Shelby Flyer track bike line, but from the looks of it, it's a pre-war race bike turned cruiser via the bars flipped upside down and backwards.

Hope to be cruising on it by mid summer.

Oh, and I picked this up for the wifey. (she's gotta ride in style too!) I already restored this one, I'll post recent picks of it soon.

Barn Find Friday! '60 Starliner

Off the road since '69, 2dr hardtop, and looks complete. Price is a bit on the steep end for a car that needs a full resto, but it looks pretty solid anyway.

63 Newport Study

Study of Dave's 63, which he wants to remove all unnecessary trim/lettering and replace the grill with mesh and a '58 Fairlane grill bar:
Round the back, he's thinking about replacing the stock taillights with some frenched 59 Buick pieces.

Bike Bar Crawl Shirt

Pulled this together last night for a "Bicycling Bar Crawl" coming up in 2 weeks. Last year's was a hell of a success, or a total disaster depending on who you ask. This year, we're hoping for more debauchery! ...and less run-ins with the law.   :)

VLV 2011

I've never been to the Viva Las Vegas show in Nevada, but it seems to be growing ever bigger and the amount of cool cars grows each year too. I'd love to get out there at some point. There was lots of good online coverage of some beautiful cars... as well as some WTF type of crap too, so I figured I'd post a few of the my fav's after rifling through the massive amount of pictures.

(All pictures lifted from "Toptinman's" coverage via the HAMB)

Check out my man Todds coverage as well for some bad ass photography of the show!
